When Josh was a little baby we were told to constantly ‘stimulate’ his eyes to help with his development. My wife and I started looking everywhere for bold high contrast toys, struggling to find anything within the local high street shops.
When in town the other day I stumbled across this play mat which would have been perfect – unfortunately Josh is too old for this now.
As you can see from the picture this would be perfect for a little baby that’s partially sighted.
Another idea to help you find that perfect Visual stimulation is searching Google. Using Google Images to search using key works such as ‘visual stimulation high contrast’, for example, to return images matching the search criteria. Scroll through the results and see if there are any toys, play mats or anything else that would be perfect for your child or someone you know that is partially sighted. I recommend this as you can see pictures rather than scrolling through website text (when using normal Google search). Image search is especially useful if you’re not sure what sort of visual stimulation toy you’re after – it gives you ideas. Try using a combination of words to describe what you’re after and search.
